“A Buddy Who Is, Arguably, Too Handsome: A Cautionary Tale in Reverse Harem Dynamics” is, without a doubt, my most ambitious and also, quite probably, the strangest book that I have ever written. It began, like most stories, as a relatively simple idea. A story about male friendship, and the rather bizarre twists and turns that are often a part of all of our lives. My intention was to follow a pair of college students as they tried to create some kind of cabaret, but, as it always happens, the characters decided that my carefully crafted ideas were just, well, far too boring. They decided that they would take my original, well-thought-out concepts, and turn them into something that was equal parts absurd, and also, often surprisingly moving.
It is, I suppose, the ultimate story of a man’s journey towards becoming a woman, while also, simultaneously, having absolutely no desire to do that at all. If you can, perhaps, consider that as a viable concept, then you might just, might, be ready for what I am about to offer you!
In this world of highly improbable events, you will find that Ayaka, our main character, is swept up into a series of utterly bizarre situations, where nothing is ever what it seems. He will be confronted with a series of characters who are all, in some way, completely insane, and you will also, if you are lucky, experience the true chaos of a life where you are almost entirely powerless to affect any of the madness.
If you are looking for a story that is funny, that does not take itself too seriously, that is also, somehow, a little bit touching, then I am certain that you will enjoy “A Buddy Who Is, Arguably, Too Handsome.”
It is, without a shadow of a doubt, a story about a man who has completely lost control of his life, and, also, a story about a journey where that man, almost accidentally, discovers what it means to be true to himself. It is, in short, everything and nothing, all at the same time, and I think you will all agree that that makes it a rather special story indeed.
